WORKING FOR EMS
Ealing Music Service works with all schools across Ealing. We are the major provider of Music lessons in Ealing and are proud of what we do. We have an excellent rate of staff retention and many employee benefits. Some of these are outlined below.
Continuing Professional Development
As a teacher with EMS, we provide a comprehensive package of CPD throughout the year. This helps you grow as a teacher and also as a musician. We offer a whole-day training event in September, which includes training from an external provider and a team-bonding event. In the Summer, we run a Twilight event (4-7 pm) for our teachers, which covers further training and discussion. Teachers are paid for attendance at both training events. Over the past year, our training has been held by Awards for Young Musicians and Nate Holder at Pitzhanger Manor and Gallery in Ealing. An allowance is also available for teachers to spend on their own, individualised professional development.

Music Technology
All of our teachers are loaned an iPad with bespoke apps. EMS is passionate about music technology and has found the use of music technology raises the quality of the learner experience. Support is available for teachers.
Buddy Support system
All new teachers receive a phone call from an experienced member of staff who can help answer any questions and give advice. For those new to whole-class teaching (WCET), a buddy is assigned who will mentor them through the early stages of this.
Performance Management
All teachers receive access to Blue Sky Management where they can log their work; discuss their progress with their line manager and ensure they are providing high-quality teaching. Teachers are observed in an atmosphere of care and mutual respect, aimed at supporting the teacher to provide the best learner experience possible.
Partnerships
EMS is very proud of its partnerships. A full list of these can be found on our Partners page. These include; the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Tenebrae, National Youth Jazz Orchestra, The Mozartists, Bollo Brook Youth Centre and Gamelan delivered by the Indonesian Embassy and Gamelan.

Ensembles
EMS runs a monthly music programme for beginners to advanced students, called Cadenza. The ensembles run from 9.00 am to 5pm at The Grange Primary in South Ealing and range from a Guitar Ensemble to Choir, Orchestra and a Percussion Ensemble. Music theory classes are included and several EMS teachers either conduct or assist the ensembles. EMS also runs a number of school Ensembles including an Orchestra, Flute Choir and Percussion Group. EMS has close ties with National Youth Jazz Orchestra, which mentors our players and performs alongside each other in concert.
Exam Service
EMS provide an Exam Entry service with ABRSM and Trinity, which simplifies the process of entering exams. The exam arrangements, accompanist and venue are all provided so that all teachers need to do is give a list of their students ready to take exams. We hold private exam visits for our students at Questor’s Theatre in Ealing: https://goo.gl/maps/Tu56UWJ4qQ8fH4NN7
For those not quite ready for exams, EMS has its own ‘Stage Assessments’ and certificates, which have proved very popular.
Concerts and Events
EMS arrange several public concerts throughout the year and gets involved in national and local events like Music for Youth. These are held at various venues throughout Ealing, such as Questor’s Theatre and Ealing Christian Centre. EMS also took over Gunnersbury Park for EMStival, a day-long festival of music-making in June 2022. Our next event is Ealing to Broadway in June 2023.
Awards
A full range of awards are available to children in Ealing who are passionate about music. Some of these awards are specific to children and young people in Ealing while others are available to all children in London or the UK. Guidance is offered as to the best award for each student and help with applications is also offered. These awards cater for all types of music including popular music, classical music and non-western music.
