Eden Leeson of Twyford CE High School won over the Judges with her song ‘I Don’t Know’. The Judges commented: “very strong and meaningful lyrics”, “melody choices in the verse are engaging from the start”, “fantastic song, right from the opening piano arpeggios through to the elegantly understated vocal ending”.

It’s worth mentioning that we had the highest amount of entries this year at eight across five schools, and we certainly hope to improve on that figure next year.

All songs were of a very high standard, with all participants receiving individual feedback. We continue to explore further how we can support our young songwriters in the borough with songwriting masterclasses planned for next year!

As part of Eden’s prize, she had the opportunity to spend the day at British Grove Recording Studios and realise her song to a professional standard, re-recording elements and improving the mix. The results will be shared in a future edition of PULSE, but for now, please do have a listen to all this year’s entrants: https://on.soundcloud.com/SS1MKnuLqqv8jR549

If you know of any aspiring song writers, please do sign-post them to this award!

With great thanks to the continued support from British Grove Studios and their wonderful Recording Engineer Tom Coath, our Judges Cliff Bradley, Rebecca Richardson and Richard Harris. And to all the participating schools in the Ealing borough who go over and beyond to support and guide their students through the submission process!
