Leonardo Aggio Financial Trust Award
This grant enables talented young musicians in the borough to apply for a grant of £50 to £800 to help them develop their music by subsidising the cost of purchasing a musical instrument.

- Applicants must: 1) be living in Ealing 2) be between 7 and 22 years old at time of audition & 3) have at least one year’s playing experience on their instrument (excluding voice) and demonstrate musical promise and commitment.
- Applications must be supported by a report from their regular music tutor (EMS502 Music Teacher Report). Any reports written by parents or applicants will not be accepted. Reports are subject to thorough inspection. If the applicant is self-taught, we require a report from a professional musician or well-known music teacher of a recognised music organisation.
- Awards will be made on merit.
- Further priority will be given to those on benefits or those under 19 whose parent / guardian is on benefits.
- Priority will be given to first-time applicants.

- Award entries must be submitted online via the Ealing Awards Online Application Form (EMS501e).
- Applications must be completed by parent/guardian if applicant is under 18 years old at time of application.
- In addition to the EMS501e form, applicants must upload a music teachers report (EMS502) completed by the applicant’s current music tutor.
- Forms received after the deadline will not be considered.
- Applicants who are unable to use the online form should email Alexandra Buckle.
- If the applicant requires an accompanist, they must arrange one independently.
- If an applicant is successful in the initial application stage, they must undertake an audition adjudicated by a specialist panel.
- The Leonardo Aggio Award may be applied for alongside any of the other Ealing Music Awards.
- 1. Eligibility
- Applicants must: 1) be living in Ealing 2) be between 7 and 22 years old at time of audition & 3) have at least one year’s playing experience on their instrument (excludes voice) and demonstrate musical promise and commitment.

If the applicant is self-taught, we require a report from a professional musician or well-known music teacher of a recognised music organisation.
- Awards will be made on merit. Further priority will be given to those on benefits or those under 19 whose parent / guardian is on benefits.

- 2. The Award
- Awards are made to assist the purchase of quality musical instruments.
- Successful applicants will be divided and judged within the following age categories: 7-10, 11-14, 15-18, 19-22 Applicants must be within the correct age category on the date of the audition. A winner and runner up will be chosen from each age category, plus an overall winner.
- The maximum award amount possible is £800. Awards generally range between £50-500 and are awarded in accordance with the applicants’ application, audition and appropriateness of financial request.
- Award payments will be made directly to the supplier or service provider rather than to the applicant. Successful applicants must contact EMS before making any purchases.
- 3. Equal Opportunities and Diversity
- We encourage applications from candidates with special needs who should make any requirements known via this form and reasonable adjustments will be made.
- We welcome applications from candidates from a range of musical cultures including the music of all parts of the world, folk and popular music styles.
- 4. Audition
- Candidates will be chosen for audition on the basis of the application form. Not every candidate will receive an invitation to audition.
- Candidates will receive notification of audition time approximately two weeks before audition.
- Three copies of the manuscripts of each piece must be provided for the panel. These must be given to the panel at the audition.
- Auditions will last no more than 12 minutes, comprising of an 8 minute performance and a short interview with the panel. Candidates should perform two contrasting pieces in order to demonstrate their skills as a performer. Each piece must be of no longer than 4 minutes each.
- Candidates are invited to bring their own accompanist if required. If the applicant requires an accompanist the cost will need to be borne by the applicant. Backing tracks are not allowed.
- 5. Trustees of the Leonardo Aggio Financial Trust
Recommendations for awards arising from the auditions will be subject to confirmation by the Leonardo Aggio Financial Trust. The Trustees’ decision is final.
- 6. Image/Video consent
In applying for this award, applicants/parents/guardians give permission for Ealing Music Service and/or London Borough of Ealing to use images/video of the applicant in printed publications and online.
