Eleven years ago, I moved to the UK from the Netherlands. The first performance I was a part of here was a patchwork show revolving around the theme of ‘Blue’. This piece, as part of this show, made choral music ‘click’ for me. It didn’t hurt that every other singer was a member of my (then newly acquired) in-laws. 😉
Charles Villiers Stanford was in his lifetime often overshadowed by his contemporaries Vaughan-Williams and Gustav Holst. The Blue Bird, in my opinion, is one of the best examples of 20th century British Choral Music.
